Repeating Sin

Genesis 16-20 – December 25, 2011 at 2:57am

Reading Genesis I was struck by Abraham’s sin of saying his wife was his sister and, by doing such, he brought punishment down on someone who didn’t know a sin was being committed.   He not only sinned but he didn’t learn his lesson and he repeated the sin.   How many of us keep committing the same sin over and over? Gossip, adultery, lying, stealing….what will it take for God to get a hold of us so we can break free from that bondage?   Once it’s been conquered, it can be an amazing example to non believers the power God has!  MERRY CHRISTMAS my friends!! Sleep well!!

True Relationship

Genesis 11-15 – December 24, 2011 at 4:22am

So…continuing on reading 5 chapters a night from the Bible…tonight 11-15.   Two things got me thinking as I was reading this grouping of Scripture.   First, when Abram and Lot divided the land.   Abram was generous and allowed Lot to pick first.   Lot didn’t pray, didn’t even attempt to learn God’s will in this matter.   He made his choice based upon his fleshly desires.  There are always consequences to our decisions we make based on our fleshly desires.   Soon he would face great destruction all around him at Sodom and Gomorrah.    The second thing has to do with our relationship with God.   God told Abram what He had planned for the future.   Abram wasn’t afraid to question God.   This passage is a wonderful example of what a relationship with God should look like.  God isn’t up there being dogmatic or unreachable.   He gives us the ability to question Him, be angry with Him, be frustrated, confused or any other emotion we are capable of.   THAT IS TRUE RELATIONSHIP!  Think about it, don’t you have that type of relationship with people in your life?  Why should our relationship with God be different?   Sleep well my friends.

A Strong Fortress

Genesis 6-10 – December 23, 2011 at 1:51am

Reading in Genesis about the making of Noah’s Ark.   God told Noah to tar both the outside and the inside of the ark.   Why wasn’t it enough to just use tar on the outside?   That’s the part of the boat that would have the majority of contact with the water.   Not only did the outside need to be prepared but the inside did as well….to be a STRONG FORTRESS.   This is like us.   Even if our outside is pretty, functional, and “polished” but the inside isn’t, then the inside will ultimately cause the outside to collapse.   So the question we must ask ourselves is simple….is my inside pleasing to God?   If not, what must I do for that to be?  Repent, pray, read His Word, fellowship with other believers.  Just my two cents for the night.   Sleep well my friends.

Shame

Genesis 1-5 – December 21, 2011 at 11:54pm

I finished reading through the book of Psalms two nights ago.  My new dedication to God is to read through the entire Bible in less than a year.  I’m reading 5 chapters a night.   I’ve read the entire Bible before but I’ll really be focusing on what His Word says to me with no commentary and no outside thoughts.  Just the Lord and me.  Tonight was Genesis 1-5.   What struck me was the immediate response Adam and Eve had to their sin….shame.   Then it struck me that shame SHOULD be the first response to sin.   So that’s my little nugget for tonight.  Sleep well my friends.
